About the Delaware County Area

Rich in history!!!
Check out historic Downtown!!!

History of Delaware!!

Let's start out by telling you a little about the history of Delaware. We believe that it all started out with the Delaware Indians, along with other tribes such as the Mingos & Hopewells occuping the area. This theory is proved by all of the different plaques with information on the different tribes throughout your drive around Delaware city. Moses Byxbe (founder\surveyor of Delaware) and others from Massachusetts were the first to settle in Delaware around 1808. After the treaty of Greenville in 1814 Delaware began to grow. (And has not stopped yet!!) Rutherford B. Hayes, born in Delaware in 1822, became the 19th President of the United States of America. Railroads helped contribute to the growth of the city in the mid 1800's. The location of Delaware, being near the state capital, Columbus, and the major thoroughfares that provide access to this town, allow for the growth of the community. Delaware-very rich in history yet changing with the times.

Now let's move on to some information for you humanitarians out there!!!

If you are looking for an area to "dig into and get your hands busy with work for humanity" then Delaware is just the place. Delaware is steeped in community oriented activities and opportunities to "give back to others." Ohio Wesleyan University, with its roots deeply planted in our city, has had a strong neighborhood initiative in that it requires all of its students to do required volunteering for their graduation in some capacity at one of the many agencies available. There is a strong base in the United Way of Delaware County and its 18 member agencies. Delaware also has a clearinghouse for matching your time and talents for the good of others at its community center, The Andrews House, called Connections. The many volunteer capacities you can assist with include Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, People In Need, Grady Memorial Hospital, both the Girl and Boy Scouts, and Delaware County's Special Olympics to name a few. Delaware is proud of its shining star in the state of Ohio, The Council for Older Adults, which has many ways to assist our elderly. The community's wide range of volunteering is one we're proud of and is a good place for all ages and backgrounds to build a good personal values for the benefit of those less fortunate.

Real Estate Tips
Cosmetic Improvements >Interior Decorating

Many people recognize a decorating style they like when they see it, but they find it difficult to combine colors, fabrics, furnishings and window treatments to create the total finished look they want.

Where can you find a good decorator? If you like the interior of your friends' home, ask them for recommendations. Many communities have decorator showcases where you can see first hand the work of several local designers. Furniture retailers sometimes hire professionals to assist their customers.

Before you commit to working with a designer or decorator, sit down and discuss your taste and goals, their fee structure, and your budget. Pay particular attention to whether the person is an active listener and communicates well. Whether you are trying to make your home look wonderful in order to sell it or want to fix up a new home, the investment in professional advice can save you costly mistakes and make your home a reflection of your good taste.
